After weeks & weeks of preparations we're off! We planned to depart at 9:00,
actual departure: 9:10 - not bad. Drove to WinCo in Temecula and stopped for
COFFEE! Then up and over Pearblossom Highway to Acton, arriving at the RV Resort
at 1:00. Couldn't resist the ice cream when we checked in...
We got mostly set up and then drove over to Tom & Myra's
to visit and help set up for the big BBQ Bash tomorrow.
We brought Rufus along hoping he would get along with their two dogs and horses.
Tom & Myra leashed up their dogs and we all went on a little walk down the
street to introduce everyone. It worked great, no aggression by anyone. So back
to the house and they all enjoyed the huge back yard while we got busy setting
up some shade covers.
After pizza & chicken Tom dug up his BBQ spit equipment and we helped set that
up. I have never seen such a huge BBQ spit. Check this out...
After firing up some charcoal, we helped get the "Baron" of beef onto the spit.
That there is a 50-pound hunk of cow! ...
Tom injected the marinade into the beef...
I think that's about 8 pounds of counterweight on there! ...
The plan is for Tom to get up every couple of hours all night long and make sure
the charcoal is going. Ugh. In the morning, he plans to add a goat to the spit
so they will both be ready for the 6:00 PM dinner.
We got back to the RV around 10:00 and crashed hard (that's way past our usual
8:00 bedtime!)
